Kyle was hired to design a three season bunkhouse to host a growing number of grandchildren and friends that often visited. The customers, Peter and Beth, didn’t want cookie cutter. Beth liked charming old Maine camps and cabins, lots of color, and a sense of whimsy. They wanted something unique and fun that would be kept in the family and loved for generations.
They requested:
- Fun bunk beds with storage, lighting, a wall ladder.
- Exposed rough sawn framing.
- A wood screen door
Kyle, after getting to know them and learning more about their personalities and style choices, suggested the following details which they loved:
- A gingerbread detail on the gable end facing the road.
- The charm of old repurposed windows and doors.
- Octagonal windows in the peak
- Wide pine flooring (from the Woodmill of Maine).
